When I try to install rpm-packages using the mandrake update tool (drakconf or whatever) iit always gives an error message while installing.
"There was a problem during the installation: ...retrieving failed: curl failed: exited with 19 or signal 0 unable to install package <something>..."
My internet connection is working fine. I just don't get it, it used to work fine

foth this you first need to add the media from any mandrake mirror,go to http://www.easyurpmi.zarb.org and the media of your choise,then you can install the packages with :
urpmi package_name
or from pakcage manager,it is good to learn how to use urpmi by man urpmi

You may want to update your urpmi database

Strange though those files existed three weeks ago... I recently reinstalled and now I can't download almost anything depending on various libraries I don't have.
The sever with the updates probably changed. Mandrake is known for making huge changes top the rpm repositories without letting anyone know. Try re-doing the steps at teh easy urpmi site using a different ftp server.

I've tried another ftp site now, but with the same bad results :cry:
Is it because I'm using the community distribution?
Should I change to Debian, Slackware or Gentoo maybe?
I'm getting better at using Linux but I'm still not sure I'm good enough to handle those distributions. They sound great, but I'm using a laptop and I'm not sure I want to go through all that hardware configuration (which mandrake autodetects!)...

Tried a french ftp site and it had the files!
If anyone else has the same problem type this in the console as root:
urpmi.addmedia main ftp://ftp.proxad.net/pub/Distributio...586/media/main with media_info/hdlist.cz

all the sites mentioned in the easyurpmi will work nice or maybe some are over crowded , you can choose the nearest to you,it is good and easy if you first add the media of main,contrib and update,with simply following the 3 steps of easyurpmi,then you just need to do for installation:
$urpmi package_name.
