Wireless advice
I have tried various flavours of Linux and the only 1 that seems to work with my wireless card without a alot of work is SimplyMepis. All I had to do with this great little distro was put in my network name and key.
I managed to get Mandrake 10.1 Community working by using the following http://www.linuxant.com/driverloader/ but still could not access some sites. It was also only a free trial, which has now ended. I understand that the problem of access to some sites was a bug that was fixed with the Official release of 10.1, but I would like to know if there is a way for my network card (a netgear WG311 802.11g PCI) to work without haveing to shell out for a license.
Any help/advice greatly appreciated

First of all, do a cardctl command (assuming this is a PCMCIA card??) on your system to find out the actual chipset of your wifi card. From this site, it seems that the WG311 may have more then on chipset:
http://prism54.org/supported_cards.php
Once you figure that out, if it's prism you can use the drivers from the above link. If it's not, let us know and we can try some other things.
Good luck!

No its not the prism chipset, but the Atheros.
Any ideas?

I believe that uses the madwifi drivers, check out this site:
http://madwifi.sourceforge.net/
Let us know if that offers any help or not.

I am having absolutely no luck with this and can not make head nor tail of the instructions. Has any body got this card working with Mandrake? As a noob I think I will need a bit of hand holding with this one...
ps, sorry I took so long to post. You can read my reason here... http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/top...tml&highlight=

There seems to be RPMs for it, so you might try installing those rather then compiling from source. Here's a step by step:

Still no luck Jeremy. Have decided to go back to using Mepis for the moment. The wife is getting a PC soon so I will put my wireless card in there (as she has no interest in learning Linux, but I am working on it!) and get one for me that is supported by Linux.
Thanks for your suggestions, and happy Christmas!

Netgear WG311 v1 setup
Have been working for about a week now to try and get this card setup. Arg. Have finally found out that it is not Ver. 2, but Ver. 1, which requires MadWifi. Tried Jeremy's link to the RPMs website, but it seems to be down. Anybody have the RPMs for this thing?!!, please!! Am going to have to uninstall ndiswrapper i guess. Maybe this is why my PC says it doesn't recognize the card. Have a nice evening! :)
