Hi - I have had a bit of experience with Linux, but this is my first installation and setup and I have a bit of a snag with my wireless
I have Mandriva 2006 (free) on an HP Pavilion zv6000 laptop with a Broadcom wireless card.
When I try and connect to the wireless network, I am seeing no wireless networks, even though I know that there are wireless networks available (my Windows machine can see them).
I think I accidently changed something in my wlan0 setup - here are the settings as they currently are in the control center's 'manage connections'
Protocol: DHCP (everything else is greyed out)
DHCP Client: dhclient
Assign host name from DHCP address: no
DHCP host name:
DHCP timeout (in seconds):
Get DNS servers from DHCP: no
Get YP servers from DHCP: no
Get NTPD servers from DHCP: no
Operating Mode: Managed
(Everything else blank)
Start at boot: yes
Track network card ID: yes
Network Hotplugging: yes
(gives only the MAC address)
A few other bits and pieces of information from other posts I've been looking at
gives me this...
lo Interface doesn't support scanning
eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning
wlan0 No scan results
sit0 Interface doesn't support scanning
eth1 Interface doesn't support scanning
and iwconfig wlan0 gives
IEEE 802.11g ESSID: off/any Nickname:"localhost"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412GHz Access Point: 00:00:00:00:00:00
Bit Rate=54 Mb/s Tx-Power: 25 dBm
RTS thr=2347 B Fragment thr=2346 B
Encryption key: off
Power management: off
Link Quality: 100/100 Signal Level: -10dBm Noise level: -256 dBm
Rx invalid nwid: 0 Rx invalid crypt: 0 Rx invalid frag: 0
Tx excessive retries: 0 Invalid misc: 0 Missed beacon: 0
Hope that helps someone :)
Again, from another post
dmesg has the following lines
wlan0: no IPv6 routers present
