Thinking of trying Mepis 7

First off, I've been bitten by the Linux bug and I love GNU/Linux. I've been using Linux ever since I found out I could install Ubuntu through the Wubi downloader. Windows is gone off my box since October and will not be coming back.

I have been reading various reviews of Mepis and I like what I see.

I wonder would it be a good distro for a Linux newby to try?

I've been using Ubuntu and FF was great but can't say the same about GG, I've been having stability issues with it and I'm considering a switch.

I like the look of Mepis and I'm wondering if I should hop.

Will things work out of the box?

Will it detect my internet setup?

Can I run it as a live CD?

Is Mepis too advanced for a noob?

OK, doing some reading, looks like Mepis will run as a live CD.
Looks like it has a proven record of making connections to the www. as painless as possible.

Is it the right distro for a newby though?

I'd really appreciate some guidence here, because I know that some distros are easier for beginners than others and I'm wondering if Mepis is relatively easy to use.

Welcome to the forums, Riverrun!

You shouldn't allow anyone here to talk you into it, or out of it. Mepis is a liveCD so all it costs to find out for yourself is the cost of the blank disk.

Why not give it a try and let us know how it goes for you?

Here's a poll for favorite distro for new users that you might want to check out, too.

Have fun with Linux...
