grub installation in mepis

i wanted to dual boot xp and mepis.. i installed windows first and then i tried to installl mepis.. i carried on with the installation procedures and finally it asked me to install grub (in MBR or root partition). when i chose root partition, the grub was not installed.. it works with MBR.. i tried thrice with same result.. why is it so? please help..

hi praveenit_84,

Welcome to the LinuxForums.

if you want to use GRUB boot Loader then it must be installed in MBR of harddisk. if you install GRUB in root partition, it wont appear at startup and you have to configure Windows Boot Loader for dual boot setup.
