    it was my video card..... bummer i really liked this one.....

    ati radeon x1300 vision tek is incompatible with linux

    I think this link will disagree with you. It says here that it is supported.

    You have the Radeon x1300 chipset?
    Do you have an internal graphics card too? On my system I had to go into the BIOS and tell my machine to boot from PCI device first instead of AGP/Internal card.

    i have a built in graphics card and the one i added is the x1300 my bios are setup to use the x1300.

    i decided to try to install the linux video card driver but i dont know how to install .run files and make sure that it is actually installed properly. i downloaded it directly from the ati website.

    You have to run those from the terminal window as root or use sudo.

    sh filename.run

    I have a newer gateway notebook, and mint 7 ran perfectly for over a year, but mint 8 will not install at all, tried 4 times, got it all the way to the last step and get ERROR: sorry install crashed. then i went back and installed mint 7 again..and it installed and was running in 8 minutes, so this week, im going to see if mint 9 has the same issues as 8 does with gateway hardware.

    i tried that and it still dosent work any other ideas? i would really perfer to use the video card i payed for.
