    Hiya!
You'll not get much help this way, you are overloading the senses here. I think you should pick one problem, whichever one you hate the most and try to fix that first. You have too many problems to solve for one thread.
    Just my .02 cents.

    To see swap in use:
    swapon -s

    Or just
    cat /proc/swaps

I realize this. But as stated, I am fatigued with posting after failed googling. It was a miracle to get it installed, because I think grub2 is unable to load a Ubu/mint10+ install if not on drive where grub is installed.. It only worked on primary master: grub2+mint10de. mint4win and wubi would choke on unpacking, so have a fatal bug, probably in misdefined var temp dir.

Ever heard the saying "death by a thousand paper cuts"? Really describes a users OS and program experience. Eventually, you develop callouses and are blind to the dangers to new users. Moreover, a list of short comings may be helpful to get them fixed. If I can not get help. I will uninstall it and put ubuntu on the system. As will millions of other users. Any one of these issues may be a show stopper.

    List part 2:
-missing 120 g drive not seen by Nautilus
-process viewer missing or not obvious where hidden,
-Sorry but I like Ubu layout better, less cluttered . So need help downloading and managing -alternative desktop managers (xfe, or gnome or whatever.)

What is most important to me. Easy! Friendly Support!

Or, perhaps the first is Fixing grub2 boot menu. hiding two entries and making xp the top default!!! Getting through developer heads to make grub2 os independent/graphical (since something so dangerous should never allow users to type. I accidentally typed sda rather than sdd at one point, possibly wiping out my xp install!!! Fortunately, for some reason I must have had a typo on the mounting, which saved my business OS.

The second. Getting my home networking to work! Without this I will not use linux. Period.

The third. Getting Abyss webserver working. I HATE Apache with a passion. very lazy design on their part.

    The forth. The process viewer.

While I applaud you expanding your knowledge and learning linux, IMO you need to make a stronger attempt at finding the fixes you are seeking. I am sure that there is a lot of information out there on ntp, swap, etc, and I think you would be better served learning how to dig up the answers on your own. As a tip, try going to wiki.ubuntu.com and browsing all their articles, or tldp.org. pool.ntp.org: the internet cluster of ntp servers is a whole sited dedicated to ntp. I hope this is helpful. You may already do this, but If you don't already have two computers I'd recommend keeping one foot in the OS you know, and don't feel you need to be an expert in Linux in a week. Take some time to acquaint yourself with it.

I see in fstab wrong swap was setup from another linux, on drive that moves around.

Still been googling for hours with nothing on mint process viewer. Or how to kill hanging processes.

Open a terminal window and issue the top command.
    Code:
    top
You can kill processes with the kill (pid #) command.
Or you can install htop and try that too.

Please let us concentrate on >>> 1 <<< problem at a time. We will be happy to help you if you do that.

    Your swap problem first.

Look at your /etc/fstab file. Use
    Code:
    cat /etc/fstab
to display it all from the command line.

It should have a section like this ( Note 'like' not 'exactly the same' )

    # swap was on /dev/sda6 during installation
    UUID=0665e3de-20cd-48c7-8a90-febfe8ae2088 none swap sw 0 0

This tells you where it is trying to set up the swap partition.

In fact post the whole of it for us to look at.

    Also run the following :

    Code:
     sudo fdisk /dev/sda
While it is running press p and then the enter key
this will then display what partitions are on the disc.
    Post the result here.
press q and the enter key to exit from it.

We will be able to see if you actually have aswap partition on it.
We can then maybe take it to the next stage and fix this problem.

Once this is fixed we can look at setting up grub2 to set your default to boot into Xp if that is what you wish.
