Mint 11 - screws up video.
Just installed Mint 11 and did upgrades. Looked great until i tried to tweak my video using the horrible system tool provided. I had run into this tool before on Ubuntu 9.4(?). doesn't recognize the monitor (couple year old acer) and won't let me do resolutions that are reasonable - so i canceled the whole process. Next time I log in not only is the resolution screwed up on Mint 11, but also on Mint 10 on a totally different boot partition when i log in there later. What the?
I used to understand X11 config - but now i look and it is another case of someone deciding that simple is never good! just like with GRUB and LILO.
Sorry for getting off track but damn....
Anyone got any idea where to start with X these days - use to be xconfig in /etc/X11?
any good doc on the subject that won't put me back another couple of days?

Fixed
Ok ... After 11.0 going down hill by the minute I decided to re-install. When I rebooted LM10 to see where we were then - it was back to dual head and the correct resolutions. Re-installed 11.0 and everything came up normally and when i went to check the resolution - it reset it just fine?
