All I want to do is change my background!

I have Linux Mint 12 with Gnome installed. I want to change my desktop background.

I assumed it would be as easy as it was in 10 - but apparently it isn't. I can't find appearances, preferences, etc., anywhere. Right-clicking doesn't do anything on the desktop.

Even Googlefu has failed me - the only results I can find are more advanced, like changing login background, etc. I simply want to change my wallpaper.

I know this is a stupid question...but can someone please walk me through it?

    Thanks!

    Hello and Welcome!

Mint now uses Gnome Shell Extensions, but is till Gnome 3 underneath.
Try clicking on the power icon in the top corner, and see if you can find System Settings.
There should be some Display Preferences or something similar.

i hope I didn't do something to harm the shell extensions settings - I tried to install a theme, but I couldn't figure anything out and gave up. I settled on my background, ha!

Thanks - in System Settings I found the Appearance dialog. I had been looking in Advanced Settings, and searching isn't what I'm used to - things like "Appearance" yield no results.

    Thanks for your help!

Installing themes is quite normal, and usually has no type of consequences.
Did you find the right setting for backgrounds?
