Wifi not working
Hello guys,
here is my problem: a few days ago I decided to install Linux Mint 12 alongside Ubuntu 11.10 just to give it a try. Being new in the world of Linux (I am using ubuntu since a couple of months after 25 years of Windows...) I like to try all the distros I can put my hands on so I will eventually settle down to the one I prefer.
Anyway, to cut a long story short:
- I downloaded Linux Mint 12 and burned it onto a Dvd
- I installed it alongside Ubuntu 11.10. All went perfectly okay (internet connection as well, which was working during the installation process)
- I re-booted after installation was done and... no wifi connection.
My connection works perfectly under Ubuntu 11.10, but when in Linux Mint, it does not connect automatically neither I am able (probably because I am a newbee) to have it working using the network manager. What I mean is that I can see and edit my connection properties but then I don't know how to have it 'working'. Username and password have been checked but I dont see any button or else to start the connection and have it working when I am in Mint.
What can I do to fix this?

Hello and Welcome.
You could start Ubuntu and issue these commands, and post your results.
This should tell us which driver is being used
If it's an USB device then use this command instead.Code:sudo lspci -knn
Then boot Mint and issue the same commands, post those results also. This should tell us which driver is being used and the hardware in your system.Code:sudo lsusb
I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.

I tried Opensuse a few weeks ago and its internet connection did not give me any trouble. So I think it is something in Mint that needs to be fixed. Okay, I shut up and let you guys ponder on my little problem

Mint did not load the driver for your card.
Ubuntu
MintCode:Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8191SEvA Wireless LAN Controller [10ec:8171] (rev 10) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:1467] Kernel driver in use: rtl8192se
You might want to start Mint and try this....report your results.Code:02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8191SEvA Wireless LAN Controller [10ec:8171] (rev 10) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:1467]
Code:sudo modprobe rtl8192se

Okay, I did it and this is the outcome:
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/3.0.0-14-generic-pae/modules.dep: No such file or directory

Hi there.
When you start Mint, look through your System Menu options.
There should be something there referring to Additional Drivers.
Select that. Your computer should look for any extra hardware drivers needed, including your wireless card.Jay

I went to the Additional Drivers section and it says: "No proprietary drivers are in use on this computer"
