help getting Internet to work on netbook
I am completely new at this and don't know what I'm doing. I did get Mint 11 on my netbook with some help, but I don't have the proper drivers. (The HP site has drivers for Windows but obviously, I'm not running Windows now so they won't work, right?)
Here's a bunch of code about what comes up from various commands I found in another thread:

Hi.
I'll try to help.
Can you tell me firstly what make/model your netbook is? From what I can see from the info you've posted you've been trying to list the hardware connected to your computer. lsusb = list usb devices connected, lspci = list pci devices etc etc etc.
Are you using an internal or external wifi adapter (ie is is usb, external pci/pcmcia)?
If you can post this info then I'll try and help further
Regards
kinsago

I do not normally recommend changing distros as opposed to fixing problems. But, I would like to point out that PCLinuxOS boots up the broadcom wireless card with no piddling.. I no longer bother with distros that require considerable piddling on a wireless card. My HP mini-110 has a broadcom card.

yes, i have an HP mini-110! my first attempt was ubuntu and it failed 3 times. when i finally got mint to work, i was pretty happy. until the internet refused to work... the piddling makes me nervous. i already tried to change some things in the internet-network area but i might have just made it worse. or at least, still not working.
any advice would be welcome and appreciated. thank you!

Your Windows driver will work fine with Mint 11. Mint 11 comes with ndiswrapper built in. (google ndiswrapper and you'll find it lets you use Windows wireless drivers in Linux.) Click /Menu/Administration/Windows Wireless Drivers and the wizard will prompt you to insert a CD with the Windows driver or point to a folder that contains the driver.

+1. This was going to be my answer too.
Failing that, are there any restricted drivers available? Not sure where it is in Mint, under Ubuntu it's 'Additional Drivers'.
This is how I get my Compaq to work
ps: if you download the drivers as an .exe or zip file etc, you may need to extract them to a folder first.

You should be able to get a native Linux driver for Broadcom from the Additional Drivers menu mentioned above. You need to be connected to the Internet with an Ethernet connection or with an external (usb) wifi device that is supported by Mint.

I tried a driver from the HP site and and transferred it to a flash drive to get on my netbook, and when I tried to open it, this error came up:
Archive: /media/10CC-097F/sp45524.exe
[/media/10CC-097F/sp45524.exe]
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
note: /media/10CC-097F/sp45524.exe may be a plain executable, not an archive
zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /media/10CC-097F/sp45524.exe or
/media/10CC-097F/sp45524.exe.zip, and cannot find /media/10CC-097F/sp45524.exe.ZIP, period.
I connected an Ethernet from the netbook to my router and still no internet connection. I checked for additional drivers and none were found.
