Desktop icons don't load on startup
I'm running cinnamon 1.6. Recently I was playing around with workspaces and then my computer suddenly froze so I shut it down by holding down the power key (the physical power button to my computer). When I restarted the desktop icons didn't show up, although everything else did (the panel). Every time i reboot the desktop icons are nowhere to be found. But if I start the file manager to browse my files the desktop icons suddenly reappear. How do I fix this. Did my forced shutdown mess up my computer?

Hard to say. Generally corrupting an OS with a hard shutdown causes more stuff to happen than just making your desktop icons disappear, though. If you can't find an option to restore them in the OS preferences, reinstalling the OS is quick and easy.
