Can not get past Grub rescue!

I had Windows 8 and Linux Mint 13 installed on different partitions on the same computer. I wanted this computer to only be a Windows 8 machine, so I (while in Windows) deleted the Linux Partition, and then extended the Windows partition so I only had one partition (the Win8 one) and the machine was running fine until I rebooted.

Now, I get

error: no such partition.
grub rescue> _

and can't seem to get past it. Even setting machine to boot from CD and putting in bootable media does not work.

your problem has nothing to do with Linux. Grub is not part of GNU/Linux, it is just a bootloader. When you were in Windows and removed non-Windows partition(s) then you also should have restored MBR. I'm sure there is a command in Windows for that, I just don't know it (I stopped using Windows when XP was new). You didn't do that, now you need to restore that boot sector somehow (assuming you are using MBR), this is a question for Microsoft customer support.

As Segfault suggested, GRUB has nothing to do with your problem. I would suggest you to check BIOS settings again. Are you sure bootable USB/DVD work fine? Have you tested the same in other machine?

iirc, same problem popped up a few years ago. Members complaining Windows DVD boot issues like this only. Try USB/DVD of any Linux distro in your machine? Does it work?
