The live cd/dvd images have the various proprietary wifi drivers installed so you can see that they work. When you install most any Debian-based distribution (including Ubuntu and Mint), these are not installed by default. They are, however, available for installation, usually in system->preferences or system->administration. If you can't find the proprietary hardware tools there, then go to this site for help: Welcome - Linux Wireless

Solved: WIFI fails on Linux Mint 15 / FujitsuSiemens pi2515

Several days ago I downloaded and installed Linux Mint 15 on Fujitsu Siemens pi-2515. The WIFI worked fine from the CD before the install but not afterward. Including the intervening days despite many attempts to resolve there was no way it was going to work. I gave up and put the notebook back in the closet.

Today I plugged it in turned it on and unbelievably it works. It listed my AP among the many. I entered the key and it connected. Obviously I must of done something but I have no idea what. Perhaps an update is responsible. I wish I could say what so that this incident could be of use to the next guy but it didn't happen that way. Nonetheless I appreciate the forum and will help whenever I can. aH

Sometimes the computer gods take pity on us mere mortals and fix our cruft in the dark of the night (or closet)... Now if they could see fit to fix my current slow out-bound connection issues that showed up with my recent RHEL 6.4 update (50+ seconds for local ssh connection and 17 seconds for a connection to internet audio stream)... The good news is that the update fixed other stuff that has been driving me nuts for a couple of years. All in all, I can put up with the slow connections to get the improvements, though I am working on resolving that. So far, no luck!
