    how to install printer?

    Hi!
I have MFC Brother DCP-540 CN printer connected to Windows XP
I'm trying to print file from Linux Mint via wireless network.
There is no driver by default for this model in Linux Mint.
I've downloaded driver from brother's web-site and installed it with dpkg.
Restarted OS but when I checked the list of installed drivers my model is NOT in the list of known by OS.
I'm able to see printer in Printer-New printer applet , but when I ask system to search for driver it suggests only generic one. How can I make OS to see the printer?
    Thank you for your help

I switched to Brother about a year ago and absolutely love it. I went to this page for instructions on how to install the driver:
Brother Solutions Center : Brother Driver for Linux Distributions
    After install, I updated database:
    Code:
    sudo updatedb
And searched for the driver. This is what I got doing 'locate dcp540'
    Code:
    /home/********/Downloads/dcp540cncupswrapper-1.0.1-1.i386.deb
    /usr/lib/cups/filter/brlpdwrapperdcp540cn
    /usr/local/Brother/Printer/dcp540cn
    /usr/local/Brother/Printer/dcp540cn/cupswrapper
    /usr/local/Brother/Printer/dcp540cn/cupswrapper/brcupsconfpt1
    /usr/local/Brother/Printer/dcp540cn/cupswrapper/cupswrapperdcp540cn
    /usr/share/cups/model/brdcp540cn.ppd
    /usr/share/ppd/brdcp540cn.ppd
    /var/lib/dpkg/info/dcp540cncupswrapper.conffiles
    /var/lib/dpkg/info/dcp540cncupswrapper.list
    /var/lib/dpkg/info/dcp540cncupswrapper.postinst
    /var/lib/dpkg/info/dcp540cncupswrapper.prerm
After this, I went into the Cups utility via Firefox. You can use the below address and get there on your machine:
    Code:
    http://localhost:631
Use the Cups utility for installing your printer. Cups should find your hardware. During the the process, you will be given a choice of which driver. I saw it in the list as 'Brother DCP-540 CN CUPS v1.1 (en).' Choose it and follow through to the end of the process. The printer should get added and you can then print a test page via Cups. Hope this works for you.
