CD's will only mount when computer is restarted

I am running Debian Mint on two different computers and both of them will not recognize a CD put into the disk drive unless I restart the computer. I tried installing "udisks-glue" and adding it to the list of startup applications, but that didn't work. What is wrong and what can I do to fix it?

That's really odd! Please do the following:

    1. insert a cd
    2. assuming it doesn't work, enter "dmesg" in a terminal and copy paste the bottom 10 lines or so in your reply here
