Mouse wont start with boot, Mint 17

Upon boot up my Logitech Mx310 corded optical mouse does not work. If I unplug it and plug it back in, it will work great. I am running Mint 17 Xfce on an ASUS K8N mobo in a home built system. I have set Legacy usb support to auto, enabled, and disabled in bios. I have also set PS2/Mouse support to auto, disabled, and enabled in boot configuration in bios. I just cant figure this out, and Google didn't come up with anything either.

    Code:

I tried that and could not figure out how to save the edit. I also accidentally hit the scroll wheel entering a bunch of other letters. now I get this.

    Code:
    E325: ATTENTION
Found a swap file by the name "/etc/default/.grub.swp"
owned by: root dated: Tue Jul 29 15:58:08 2014
             file name: /etc/default/grub
              modified: YES
user name: root host name: aaron-K8N
            process ID: 3635
    While opening file "/etc/default/grub"
                 dated: Wed Jul 23 23:30:56 2014

    (1) Another program may be editing the same file. If this is the case,
be careful not to end up with two different instances of the same
file when making changes. Quit, or continue with caution.
    (2) An edit session for this file crashed.
If this is the case, use ":recover" or "vim -r /etc/default/grub"
to recover the changes (see ":help recovery").
If you did this already, delete the swap file "/etc/default/.grub.swp"
        to avoid this message.
    "/etc/default/grub" 34 lines, 1237 characters
Press ENTER or type command to continue
I've only been using Linux for a week, and I don't know what I'm doing. I feel that I've been given just enough rope to hang myself with here.

You don't have to use vi to edit the file. You do have to sudo though so if you use a gui editor you need to invoke it with gksudo. Vi keeps track of changes in a .swp file so that is what the message is referring to. If you want to use vi you'll need to learn the commands - it is a good editor but has it's own commands.

Way over my head, might as well speek elvish or Klingon. I suppose I'll just live with it until I learn more.

    You could try typing:
    Code:
    gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub
and making the changes that way. Gedit, if you have it installed, will have a familiar gui.

    OK I used

    Code:
    gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub
    to insert

    Code:
    i8042.nomux=1 i8042.reset
    into

    Code:
     GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
and saved, and then in terminal I did

    Code:
    sudo update-grub
    still no worky though

I gave up on trying to fix it right, and moved the plug from the on-board usb jack to the PCi adapter I have installed. It works this way so Ill just have to let it go.

I will not mark this solved as, nothing is really solved and I dont want to give internet searchers false hope.
