    update video driver

Hi everyone. I am running Mint 18 w a Nvidia graphic card. I would like to to update the driver. Driver is 304.131. In Synaptic there is this:
    nvidia-current-updates, 304.131-0ubuntu3.
I dont want to update to a new driver version, just this update. Do I
stop MDM, sudo apt-get install nvidia-current-upgrade=304.131-0ubuntu3
    --install recommends,

Is this right or is there another way? i dont want to screw up, you know the trouble with nvidia drivers. Thanks

ps, synaptic wants to also install nvidia-304-updates, 304.132-0ubuntu.16.0
The 304.132 driver is bad as we all know. I dont want to risk the .132 update.

isn't that just a normal system upgrade?
you should be able to update and upgrade your system.
don't use the command line, apt-get might break linux mint's own update mechanism.

you know that for each nvidia card there's a maximum driver version?
in other words, you cannot install the newest nvidia driver for an older nvidia card?

Interesting. I am running Mint 18 with a current nVidia card and it is running 367.x for the driver and such. That should handle anything for the past several years. You can go to the nVidia web site for more information. If necessary, you can put your system into text/console mode (runlevel 3) and then install the driver manually. Not for beginners!
