How do I keep Synaptic packages to my /usr/local?

:( Since I would like to be able to preserve my postinstall applications - like I do with /home partition - between system upgrades, I set aside another /usr/local partition...BUT :mad: I can't figure out how to take any random Synaptic listed program and install it into that last mentioned partition! The traditional / or /usr partition is within Synaptic's INSTALL PATH! HELP!!!!!!!!!:(:mad:

could you not copy those over to where you can store/use them?

The GDebi Package Installer, used locally, will install the .debs as required.

Why would you need a different partition?
