Laptop battery on LMDE
Hi guys, I have been using Mint 11 on my desktop for some time, and after buying a laptop recenetly, I decided to give LMDE a try. Win 7 runs on my lap full charged for 3 1/2 hrs bt LMDE Lxde 64-bit only for 2 hrs.
My specs are
Dell Inspiron N5110 i5 64-bit
4gb RAM, 1gb Video
Please I love Linux bt the extra 1 1/2 hrs is drawing me to Windows.
I'm a noob but the first places I would check are to ensure all updates are applied to your Mint install. Secondly, look in user system setting for power management and ensure they are appropriately set.

A related issue, excessive heat, is why I'm no longer running Mint on my Dell laptop. I switched to bare-bones Debian Squeeze, at least until the power issue gets resolved.
I had similar problem with my iBook and debian squeeze. battery life shortened and fan very often working: solved simply setting the CPU temperature, so battery life becomes normal: simple google for right setting for your laptop.
could you please share a link where you find a solution?

I am very interested on this topic too.
In my case (Samsung NP300) the difference of battery life between win7 and linux (lmde-201204) is 3,5 hours vs 1,5 hours.
May something not being working properly with the hardware management? I hadn't tried yet, but I think I could toast small pieces of bread just leaving them next to the laptop while running linux :D Anyway, if anyone has time I would appreciate every hint from you guys in this regard. I attach below a short summary of the system:
