Hey im running linux mint cinnamon and i have minecraft and when in go to run it it opens up with the usual login screen and then it says updating minecraft and below that it says done loading but it just stays there?

Did it work earlier or you are running it first time? Minecraft website is down right now.
oh that probably would explain it it wasnt down when i got the .jar file but it must have been down when i tried to run it:lol:
