I am trying to install octave, but am a little new to installing software on Linux
I have got as far as navigating to the file, and done
but then typing
returns a no make file error
How can I progress from here?
Is octave available in your software repos?
sudo apt-get install octave

That just worked, no ifs no buts just worked. And now it is sitting open on my desktop waiting for me to enter matrices into it and start calculating eigenvalues.

Sometimes it's easy to forget how easy software installation can be.
When in doubt, package manager!:D
