Booting Live Cd

I have an Intel Based Macbook with 2x2g ram and 2.4 ghz. with a superdrive cd/dvd burner

I have tried booting live cds of:

slax
ubuntu
linux mint
kororaa
elive

Every time i try and boot them, either holding "c" when turning on or "option" and selecting to boot the dick drive, the screen goes black and an underscore cursor blinks in the top left corner. It does this untill i shut it off and boot up OS X normally.

I'm not at all familiar with a Macbook so don't know what distributions will or won't run on it, but you can look at this HowTo for making sure you are properly downloading, and burning the ISO file to the disk as an image:

It also covers properly booting from the newly created disk.
