I am running RH9 & I am just looking for a way to generaly speed up my linux O/S -especially the boot up/shutdown time. I just know there are tons of processes and modules that i don't need. Anyone have any suggestions?

Kudzu. You wont need hardware-detection avery time at boot, if you need hardware detection, run kudzu as root after boot. The canna-server is also not needed (Starts automaticly in FC1 i know, but i dunno 'bout rh9). In the FC-series, there is a prog called "rhgb" (red hat graphical boot) which also can be turned off if you wanna speed up the boot-time. Personally I like having them running, but if you don't need servers (httpd, sshd, etc) you can turn of those too.
