someone mentioned redhat, if you really have redhat reboot with the mouse removed from the computer, kudzu will say hey its gone, tell it to remove configuration. Then reboot again, and plug it back in, when it comes up say configure and selece WHEEL mouse, and it will work... you must not have selected wheel mouse from the beginning (redhat 8.0 has this option, but in my experience doesnt detect it as a wheel, just as a 2/3 button)

as for all 5 buttons, there is code for it somewhere - but i don't know of it

Ok, I'll try that. When I turned my computer on just now the mouse was going crazy, jumping all over the screen. It was working fine last night, I don't know what happened. Perhaps what you just mentioned will fix both problems.

yeah that jumpy thing happens if you change mice, for example unplug a 2 button and plugin a 3 - it will go crazy...

that's how i fix it, just reboot it and left kudzu grab it, I'm to lazt to edit the config file by hand...

I've rebooted a few times...nothing happens. Is there anything I should do, such as boot into text mode and try to run kudzu from there? It's not coming up with LILO. If I am supposed to do it from text, what're the commands I need?

This is getting really annoying...it seems like Linux should be able to catch the jumpy mouse and fix it.

its not coming up with LILO? You mean you cant pick between windows and linux? or you mean not kudzu - the program i told you about?

anyhow, paste you

/etc/X11/XF86Config file here, its big, but i dont think you should try getting certain parts - you might miss the one we need...

Code:
Section "InputDevice"
	Identifier "Mouse0"
	Driver "mouse"
	Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
	Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
	Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
	Option "Emulate3Buttons" "yes"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
	Identifier "Mouse1"
	Driver "mouse"
	Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
	Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
	Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no"
	Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection
this is the section we want if you feel dangerous

I got it! My mouse is working again...it took forever to navigate to that file with only the keyboard. The scroll wheel doesn't work, but that doesn't matter now. I'm just glad to have my mouse back.
