Where can I get the g++ compiler for RedHat 7.2 ? I'm trying to install the qtlib and this package needs of this compiler, and I only find this compiler to Conectiva distribution...

Hi,

Before to install the package gcc-2.96-98, I see the files that are in this package, and I see that there is no a g++ executable... When I try to install the qtlib, a g++ executable is required, so I think that this package (gcc-2.96-9 will not solve my problem...
I need to have sure that a package will sove my problem because I'm running 2.96-85 cpp, that is required by the kernel-sources, and it is required to compile the sources of Lucent winmodem device drivers, then if I change the cpp I'll have to recompile my Lucent windmodem drivers (and I think that this will not be easy...).

I am sure that g++ comes with that rpm. It will contain compilers for c, c++, fortran, obj c, java, ada, and all the libs for them. btw gcc stands for gnu compiler collection.

Try this instead:

rpm -Uvh ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/7.2/en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/gcc-c++-2.96-98.i386.rpm

Yes, that's basically true, genlee, but RedHat ships the different front-ends in different RPMs.

I think its dumb to split gcc up like that but ok.

I guess it is to save disk space, so I'd say it's ok. I don't really see what you have against it? gcc is made to be modular, after all.
