Extended attributes with ReiserFS

I'm trying to get extended filesystem attributes (namely append only) working on a Reiser 3.6 filesystem. I'm running Gentoo and I'm trying to make my /etc/portage/package.keywords append only, and even though I have support for extended attributes for the Reiser filesystem enabled in my kernel, I don't see a way to change attributes other than chattr, which won't work here. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I think the attributes are normally set in /etc/fstab. The xattr switch for example is needed for beagle indexing.

The user_xattr option does a good job of enabling the attributes being set, but I still don't have a way of setting them. Does anyone know of a tool equivalent to chattr that works on ReiserFS?
