I'm using Mandrake 9.1 with the ASUS A7N8X motherboard. According to the ASUS website I have a Realtek built in sound card, the ALC650. I want to be able to use my microphone in Linux so I downloaded and installed the nForce drivers from Nvidia.com. I have sound but no ability to record. I'm not sure whether Mandrake auto detected my sound or whether the drivers gave me sound but either way I don't have recording abilities. I went to Realtek's website and downloaded the Linux drivers they hosted on their site figuring I would simply have to install and be done. I extracted the file and read the Readme file. It told me to extract the tarball, turn on my sound devices (which should be on right?) and then do a ./configure, make and make install. I am getting an error on the make. I don't have a clue what to do at this point and I would really like to be able to use my microphone.

I looked through the log files that you posted and I do not see the error. It looked like eveything compiled fine. What do you think is the error?

Seems I didn't check the make.txt file. Not all the output was dumped into the text file. There is a compilation error. The supplied Readme file says that if there is a problem compiling that I should rename my kernel source directory to /usr/src/linux if it is not already that. I still get this compilation error. I made sure I copied the text containing the error. This is not a new make command, it is just the output that was not dumped into the previous make file for some reason.

Ok it works now. I don't know why it decided to compile all of a sudden but I'm satisfied.
