how to change the system name

You have two options:
1. Edit the /etc/HOSTNAME file, add the name of computer followed by domain. e.g. mine is Mercury.Solar Mercury is name of computer, Solar is my "fake" domain name.

2. Launch Yast -> Network Devices -> Network Card -> "Hostname and Nameserver" change your computer's name in hostname field, then save it.

Please also tell me how to change the system name of fedora as well as mandriva thanks.

in fedora its /etc/hosts file.
add entry in it

On Fedora also change /etc/sysconfig/network.
