USB External Hard Drive, What linux is best?
I recently got a 250 GB WD Passport portable hard drive, I would like to put up a partition and be able to boot up linux on any computer. Is there a best type to use over a USB 2.0 connection? free is best. If it helps I use Kubuntu at home.
Thanks a lot.

Well, i guess any mainstream distro should work since the hard drive is quite large, though there may be issues with transfer speeds to and from the drive.
There is also the option of a lighter distro like slax .
Anyway, here is a nice list of small distros - The LiveCD List

Welcome to the forums!
Since you are already familiar with Kubuntu and you like it, that would probably be a good choice for installation on your new drive.
Let us know how it goes.oz

Thanks, i installed Kubuntu but haven't yet tested it. I found some code on the Ubuntu forums for getting it to run from startup. I'll check back in when I get a chance to test. Thanks for your help.
