Since Linux has Root.
I can write Virii for Linux. But that wont work.
Since you need to be root.
But, if you can find a exploit that makes you able to become root without a password you can make a Viri.

Yes, if you can log in as root, you have access to everything including the kernel.

No. Unless the virus was specifically designed for Linux or you're running a program while logged in as root user from inside of WINE, a Microsoft Windows virus will not infect your system.

Windows virus can only run on linux via emulation. So, unless your distro is configured to automount usb devices, and launch anything from those drives using wine automatically then you are safe.

And I haven't found a distro that can do that without some heavy trickery involving udev, some scripting and wine of course.

Windows virus can do stuff on a linux filesystem if this filesystem is accessible to wine, but they can't run natively on linux without any emulator. And so, they can't do anything unless you load them implicitly or explicitly using wine.
