i searched aol site but it's really mess..i didn't find where to set-up the account..is it free?

Personally I prefer using Gaim over Kopete, however Kopete is also good.
Yes, an AIM account is free.
I must admit, I just checked the AIM site, and it is now a total mess. Not as clear or helpful as it was before. To get a screen name, just click this link and follow the information.

It's usually better to start a new thread than revive a 2-year-old one, for the record.
There are a number of AIM clients out there that have been mentioned. I personally prefer Gaim (http://gaim.sourceforge.net), but there's also Kopete (which comes with KDE) and the official AIM client, the Linux version of which blows chunks, which is available at the AIM website.
