What is the current best Live Distro for...
1) use on a laptop
2) use on a desktop
3) Should there be 2 answers for each of the above (cd and dvd)?
I have been away from being able to use live distros for a while but in the past it was generally Knoppix that was picked.

Choice of distribution is entirely up to you... If you ask 10 people what is the best distro you may even get 10 different answers.
Moreover, some distros are better suited than others for specific needs (for scientists, artists, etc)
If you give us more info maybe we can make some suggestions.
I have never used Knopix myself, but i have never read bad things about it either.
