Want advice on distros to try

I have a question about distros. I would like to hear recommendations about distros. I would use the computer for things such as multimedia: converting and listening to video and audio files. Office aplications such as Openoffice & vim. I might want to compile a program once and awhile.

I've tried a couple of distros: Ubuntu and Slackware, but would like to know what else is out there worth trying.

    Thanks for advice.

Pretty much any of the top 10 or 15 on Distrowatch. You'll be able to get all codecs for multimedia no matter which distro you decide upon. Same story on compiling programs.
As far as what's out there, personally I've always had a soft spot for Fedora. CRUX is simply the fastest OS I've run to date. Been playing around with Slack and *buntu, lately.
