    No sound in Amarok

    Hi All,

I have installed Kubuntu 9.10 on my friend's PC. Installation has gone very well and now we are up and running with Linux.

My friend has some MP3 files which she is trying to play in Amarok. The title of the track and artwork is appearing in the playlist but when you click on a track, there is no sound and there is no timeline showing that the song is being played.

To confuse matters further, the audio settings/sound card seem to be OK. System notification sounds work OK (during log-on and log-off) and we tried putting a CD into the drive and the sound could be heard on the video player.

Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Try opening Amarok and Click on Settings>Configure Amarok>Click on the Playback Tab>Configure Phonon. See if your soundcard is listed here, try fooling with the settings but remember what it's set at to begin with, so you can change it back if nothing else works.
How did you install Amarok? Was is already installed? Try re-installing it.

    Thanks Mike
    Will give that a try.
I installed Kubuntu 9.10 from a magazine CD and so Amarok was already part of the package that was installed. However, I will try uninstalling and reinstalling Amarok to see if that resolves it and will also try the Configure Phonon options you mentioned.
    Thanks again.
