Help me revive my PC [new OS install]
Hi guys,
I have a PC with a broken hard disk. I want to boot it from my external USB hard disk. I created a 30 GB ext3 partition on the disk for '/' and 3 GB for swap. I tried installing Ubuntu, Linux mint and PCLinuxOS, but the installation always gets stuck at 'copying files' (I even tried keeping it overnight).
The disk is GPT formatted and has other partitions containing important back ups from my other computer (so I cannot re-format it). My computer (broken) is capable of booting from USB disks. So is there any other way?
I will be using the computer just for downloading stuff and most of the times it will be un-attended. So can I boot from a LiveUSB and save my data and sessions/settings on the USB hard disk? Or is there a better solution?
Forgive me if I posted in the wrong place (I am a n00b here).
