    Linux gets angry when the net goes down, why??



    Ok i have noticed this with several versions of linux i've used, whenever the internet crashes in my apt my computer completely lags out, i cannot open things, booting the machine takes a good 5 minutes. Basically the entire operating system because highly unstable. The second the internet connection starts working, everything is fine again. Whats up with this??

    It's probably because the DNS servers aren't responding. If that happens, every program wanting to do any kind of hostname lookup will hang until the timeout time elapses. It could be remedied by simply turning networking off until the network comes back online.
