Questions about manpages
This may seem like a daft question (in which case, I apologise) but are manpages always stored in either gz or bz2 format, depending on the distro? Or are other formats used? Do distros ever mix formats, storing some manpages in gz and others in bz2?
Many thanks,
David Shaw

man man says:
I didnt pay attention, which distribution did you encounter, that uses bzip2?These utilities support compressed source nroff files having, by default, the extensions of .Z, .z and .gz. It is
possible to deal with any compression extension, but this information must be known at compile time.
But in any case, I would assume and expect that one distribution would use one compression method consistently. You must always face the curtain with a bow.
