    Memory available to a program

I have 3.5 GB of RAM installed in my machine. How much of this memory can an individual program use?

In the usual configuration, an individual process can use 3 GBs. There are kernel patches to allow for 3.5 GB, but the best way if you know that you're programs will only run on IA32 architectures is probably to allocate and use several selectors.
