A Linux for web development
Hello,
I've been trying out the different distros...Mandrake 9.1 and SuSE 8.2 Pro and tried Redhat 9.0 and Slackware 9.0 but they wouldnt act right on my laptop. I have Mandrake on my laptop and Suse on my PC.
I wanted to learn linux, apache, PHP, Perl, Python. I'm a web developer (up and coming anyway) and I want to know opinions on what distro would be better for this or is there really no better one. I want to setup apache with the same structure as my hosting reseller provider so I can test my web apps etc on my system and then upload without changing any pathnames in the files. for instance it's home/httpd/vhosts/xxxxx.net/httpdocs/files..... on my host.
Anyway, I know setting up apche is a another discussion. I just wanted opinions.
Thanks
B

I doesn't really matter. Apache, PHP, Perl, Python, MySQL, CGI, etc., etc., are all the same no matter what distro you're running them on.

I guess the only difference might be the packages themselves and how they are configured. For example, RedHat's apache wasn't configured as much as Debian's apache. Debian also calls it's daemon apache instead of httpd. Stuff like this may be the only common side effect but as Dolda clearly stated, every distro is very much the same regarding the things you wanted to run.
The best things in life are free.

I appreciate the input. I'm really excited about creating my testbed platform.
Thanks
