Press F3 at inital screen, should say SONY or VAIO, then very quickly press F2. I don't know why it's like that, but that is the only way I could get in.
F3 takes you to another screen BTW.

odd - when you pressed F3 did it then say press F2 to enter setup or something similar? I remember you saying that nothing said press me on the first screen

Yeah, after you press F3, in the bottom right hand corner (normal postition) it said to press F2 for setup, but you had maybe a second to press until it went away.

that's nuts - and nothing said to press F3 - i have some HP's and stuff that are loading splash screens on boot - but almost all of them have a spot where it says (usually in tiny letters of the splash screen) what to press
