And even so ide-scsi doesn't claim your CD-ROMs? Now that's weird. Reload all the modules and check for any kernel messages....

Well I installed Mandrake on another part of my drive and I'm still getting the same thing when I run cdrecord -scanbus. ide-cdrom version 4.59 is still what comes up in /proc/ide/hd*/model. This is getting quite frustrating. If this means anything to anyone, when Mandrake boots up I get the following error repeatedly: modprobe: modprobe -ide cd failed. Does anyone have any idea what I could have done to mess these things up?

No idea, really, but of all distros that I've gained experience on from these forums, Mandrake does seem like the least stable one.

Well once I get gentoo 100 percent working it's replacing Mandrake. Thanks for the help.
