Kubuntu root password + home partition

    1. Why isn't there a step to choose the root password in the installation and what is the default password?

What is the default root password?

There is no root password set as default. If KDE needs administrator privileges you should use your user password instead. You can also edit files as root from Konqueror with right click -> Actions -> Edit as Root. See Root Sudo Wiki page.
    Whoops, I should've RTFM...

    2. What options do you need for an ext3 partition to be the /home partition? I just specifified it as /home when installing Fedora and defualts does the job there.

Ubuntu chooses (for whatever reason) not to enable the root user by default. To re-enable root, simply drop to a console, type sudo and when it asks for a password, enter your *regular user password*, then when you're logged in type passwd and enter whatever password you want for root. Voila. Root is now enabled.
