    i havent got my xp cd(not installed from original )so what shld i do
    if i get something like
    grub>
    also which os is better windows xp or windows 2000(i know this is not related to linux but it always helps to know views)

    You can't select anything to boot from?

    Hm... Windows XP requires more hardware and if you play games it will work better.

    Is that all you see? If so type --version to see if you are in the GRUB shell.

    I suspect though that you are getting a GRUB error in which case you will need to repair it.

    Both are pretty solid for a Win OS as long as they have the current Service Packs and all Critical Updates. I use and support both and while W2K was my preference for quite some time I know prefer for XP with Service Pack 2 for staability. But as Serz says it takes more horsepower to run XP but that's only an issue if you are running older generation of CPU and have 256M RAM or less.
