    Look for a program called GTKPod it is the best i can find

    or you if your using KDE try kio_ipodslave (think thats the name)

    it lets you access your ipod as a drive in the browser by going to ipod:/ and from there you can add / delete songs etc....its good too. And the windows formatting isnt a problem
