    hello,
rigt now I'm setuping(emerging) drivers for some of the hardware (Creative Sound Blaster Live), and I'm curious why does it take it so long....?? the code I used was:
    Code:
    emerge emu10k1
is it actually compiling the driver(s)??..
and what does 'emerge' exactly mean?

Emerge takes the packages from the portage tree and compiles and installs them, so basically emerge means install. I heard that emu10k1 takes a long time, you're the second person I've read that has emerged it. Although I'm not sure why, I have a Creative SB Live soundcard and I didn't have to emerge emu10k1, I just added support for it into the kernel.
