How to read OpenOffice doc
Hi folks,
LFS LiveCD 6.1
Is there any way to "READ" OpenOffice .doc document?
I'm running LFS LiveCD to build LFS. The former runs Xfce as destop without word processing software built-in. My problem is how to read .doc documents stored on the HD. After mounting the corresponding partition on the HD I can retrieve .doc document but could not open/read it.
I'm not prepared to Remaster the LiveCD. Is there any solution?
TIA

OpenOffice saves .doc files as .rtf format but using the .doc extension.
So use whatever software you know can handle an rtf file.

Hi Chris H,
Tks for your advice.
On LFS LiveCD there are limited packages included, such as 'nano', 'vim', etc. They can't read .doc files. I tried evoking the OpenOffice installed on the HD after "chroot /" as root without success. I even can't read .pdf file there. Unless remastering it, I fail to see I can use it.OpenOffice saves .doc files as .rtf format but using the .doc extension.
So use whatever software you know can handle an rtf file.

Ted will read rtf.
Alternatively you can use the command rtf2html to convert them to be read by your browser.
Helps if you have these available though.

Hi Chris H,
Tks for your advice.
Both Ted and rtf2html are unknown to me.
Whether Ted refers to;
http://www.nllgg.nl/Ted/index.html
I have rtf2htm3.tar.gz download.
# yum search rtf
foundDo you know this package?Code:unrtf.i386 0.19.3-1.1.fc3.rf dag Matched from: unrtf Converts from RTF to other formats UnRTF is a command-line program which converts documents in Rich Text (.rtf) format to HTML, LaTeX, PostScript, and other formats. Converting to HTML, it supports font attributes, tables, embedded images (stored to separate files), paragraph alignment, and more. http://www.gnu.org/software/unrtf/unrtf.html
I don't know whether Ted and rtf2html are available on LFS LiveCD. I'll check later.
What are their executes so that I can run "which" to find them. TIA
