A question about linux applications and cross-compatability
I've downloaded many different versions of Linux, including Mandrake 9.1, RedHat 9, and Lycoris b119 and I have thousands of applications and programs on the large quantity of disks. I am wondering if the programs are cross compatable? For instance, can you use a RedHat server or text editor on Mandrake or vice versa.
Thanks for any info!

More or less, so to speak. Since RPM packages are all binary, they need certain files and configurations to match perfectly, especially libraries. It's often a better idea to just go download the source and compile it directly on your distro.
