postfix or exim work good for smtp. I only use courier for pop3/imap.

server
Genlee, (is that short for General Lee of the confederates?) anyway, Can i set this server up to send and receive using my personal domain such as mydomain.com
me@mydomain.com
smtp.mydomain.com
pop.mydomain.com
I hope you understand what I mean. Or does it just retrieve from say earthlink and forwards to your mailbox,
plz clarify.

I have never done this myself but is on my list of things to do .It is indeed possible to do this.
Set up SMTP and POP as necessary
You also need to get an mx record on a DNS server so that all the mail send to you can be forwarded to your mail server. All the mail to yourdomain.com will arrive at your mail server.
You probably want to talk to the people that created a DNS entry for your domain.
HTHI am on a journey to mastering Linux and I got a bloody long way to go!!!

Sendmail server is versatile for this purpose. For this u have to set up ur domain name,
using NAMED server or u can put ur entry in ur local dns server. Then configure ur sendmail
server. Good docs r available in the net.

Sendmail is also great for having monthly exploits. If you miss updating windows, I suggest you install sendmail.
