    Is there a way to save a Mepis configuration (like background, screensaver, etc) to a file so that each time I use it, I can load those settings?

    Yes, probably.. I mean, what desktop environment are you using? KDE, GNOME, XFCE? If it's either one of them.. well, you're supossed to figure it out, the environment can't be more easy/user-friendly.

    Assuming you run live, have you checked the mepis control center?
